They usually disappear on their own, but it’s helpful to know the treatments that will help you get through sooner. Sores or canker sores are white or yellow ulcers surrounded by a red halo. They measure between 3 and 8 millimeters and appear in the mouth, on the cheeks, lips, tongue, palate, or gums. They are not serious injuries, but they are very annoying.

It still tells us how we can cure them to relieve the pain and stinging they produce. It also explains the common causes of its appearance and what signs may make us suspect that they may be more serious.

1. Why Does Thrush Appear?

There are several causes, although the most common is trauma, for example, by rubbing, by a blow, or because you have bitten.

Brackets. If you wear orthodontics, it is common for you to suffer, since sores are caused by traumatic rubbing between the surface of the ‘apparatus’ and the oral mucosa, the surface of the tongue or lips. In these cases, sores cause pain and burning and can make a speech or eat difficultly.

Food deficits. Lack of vitamin B12, folic acid, or iron can lead to its onset.

You’re Low In Defense. They may be related to an infection or to having a depressed immune system.

Nerves. If you go through a time of more stress or anxiety, you’re at increased risk of canker sores if you’re prone.

Allergy. There are bacteria in your mouth that you can develop an allergic reaction to.

Hormonal disorders. In predisposed women, they may appear in menstruation or menopause.

Smoking. Tobacco is toxic and can also affect the mouth. The best thing you can do to improve the health of your mouth and your whole body is to quit smoking.

Behcet’s disease. It is characterized by inflammation of various parts of the body and sores’ appearance in the mouth or sex organs.

Other causes. Some chemicals, very hot substances, toothpaste, or some medications are also likely to cause mouth sores.

2. How To Cure Sores In The Mouth

Your doctor will tell you can do to make them heal faster. In general, they are usually cured with:

Topical treatments. Although there is no specific therapy for this condition, it is most common to apply local topical medications or rinses with anti-inflammatory (such as carbenoxolone and dexamethasone) triamcinolone. Rinses with water and salt can also be done.

Dental wax. In patients with braces, dental wax may also be used while the lesions heal. But do not abuse, as the mucosa will not adapt to these devices and make the appearance of these lesions.

Medications. In more severe (uncommon) cases, antibiotics (tetracycline, minocycline) are used. And in sporadic cases, treatments with oral or local immunomodulators, .etc.,

Don’t use alcohol. Alcohol mouthwashes should not be used as they may make sores worse.

It’s better to be safe. Although there are no 100% guarantees that they will not recur, it is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene, follow in the diet steps. Explained above, avoid stress and tobacco and solve all infections or hormonal disorders that may lead to their onset.

These treatments alleviate and speed up the healing process.

Aloe Vera. Apply directly to pure aloe vera gel sore 1 to 3 times a day for a week.

Dredge blood. The sap of this tree is a powerful healer. It is applied to canker sores, 2 or 3 times a day, for one week.

5. Do Canker Sores Or Mouth Sores Indicate Anything Serious?

In principle, mouth sores don’t have to worry because they don’t pose any health risk in themselves. However, if wounds tend to recur, they are broad and deep and do not heal, it is advisable to consult with your doctor to assess whether there is any relationship with another disease.

For example, mouth cancer can sometimes develop with a simple open sore or wound in your mouth that doesn’t just go away.
